Job Description


Purpose & Position Overview

North Valley Baptist Church (NVBC) located in Columbia Falls, Montana is seeking a Senior Pastor that meets both the spiritual and personal qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 and who strives to exemplify the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23. The Senior Pastor must live as a committed disciple of Christ, student of the Bible, model a lifestyle of Gospel proclamation locally, nationally and internationally. The Senior Pastor must love people, and relate to people of all ages and from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. As the leader of NVBC it is also important to lead with sincerity, humility and with a passionate drive to provide pastoral care for the needs of both the congregation and community.


The Senior Pastor of NVBC will provide spiritual direction to the local congregation and he will oversee the ministries of the church. He should strive to engage and support the Southern Baptist Convention, participate in Montana Southern Baptist Convention activities, and supports missionaries of the International Mission Board (IMB). Most importantly the Senior Pastor must lead NVBC to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) and live according to the Great Commandant – to love God and love our neighbor (Matthew 22:35-40).



Administrative & Leadership Overview

The pastor of North Valley Baptist Church will supplement compensation with support of sister congregations or serve as a bi-vocational pastor. However, the Senior Pastor will serve with full authority as pastor and as head of the church. The pastor will be a “servant leader” (1 Peter 5:1-4) working in cooperation with established committees while also establishing a team of deacons to support the work of the church. The pastor also administratively oversees the development of the church budget, adherence to the budget, leads quarterly business meetings and provides direction to the church administration assistants. The pastor of NVBC should ensure the church runs in accordance with biblical principles, adheres to national laws, and boldly yet compassionately addresses any conflict that may arise.


Missiological Overview

While guiding NVBC to fulfill the Great Commission, the pastor of NVBC will lead the church in activities promoting fellowship within the Body for the purpose of growing the Body and for the purpose of glorifying God and mobilizing the church on mission – locally in Columbia Falls and the Flathead Valley, and internationally.


Doctrinal Overview

North Valley Baptist church is looking for a licensed and ordained Southern Baptist Pastor to shepherd the church with the Bible as foundation for all truth. This includes belief in salvation through faith alone, baptism by immersion and lead the church in Gospel proclamation, covenant membership and reproducing discipleship. The pastor should demonstrate high moral character, integrity and uphold the precepts of biblical singleness and marriage. He should adhere to a conservative theological perspective that clearly rejects non-biblical cultural trends and a progressive agenda. Likewise, he must exhibit a desire to cooperate with congregations from varied church backgrounds while faithfully articulating a mission, vision, values and strategy that fulfill the Great Commission and bring glory to God.


Education & Experience Requirements

North Valley Baptist Church is looking for a Pastor meeting the following requirements:

  • Born again believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior with a clearly articulated testimony of his personal conversion and a demonstrated commitment as a follower of Christ

  • Ability to communicate a clear calling to serve the Lord in Pastoral Ministry

  • Ordained by a Southern Baptist Church

  • Earned an MDiv or equivalent from an SBC seminary or similarly aligned theological training

  • Have a minimum of 5-years’ experience in church ministry with a minimum of 3-years as lead pastor.

  • Demonstrated commitment to expository preaching (2 Timothy 2:15)

  • Public speaking proficiency (proven clear and effective communicator)

  • Theological perspective aligning with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000)




  • Serve as primary preaching and teaching pastor delivering Sunday sermons

  • Plan and lead Sunday worship services

  • Lead the ordinances of Baptism and the Lords Supper

  • Provide premarital counseling and officiate weddings

  • Visit the sick and officiate funerals

  • Visit members and prospective church attendees

  • Provide biblical-based spiritual counseling

  • Lead in effective evangelistic outreach to the lost

  • Moderate business meetings

  • Lead in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating a comprehensive church strategy with a clearly communicated mission, vision, values and strategy

  • Develop a church budget that supports the strategy

  • Ex Officio member of all committees

  • Develop a body of deacons to assist with the ministries of the church

  • Cooperate with state and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern

  • Disciple and grow the local body

  • Encourage, support and lead both local and international missions

  • Ensure the pulpit is supplied with a qualified preacher on any Sunday he is not in attendance

  • Serve as lead administrator when additional staff are hired.
